How Does IPL Work?

Targeted Light "Kills" the Hair Follicle

During photo-epilation, the pigment (melanin) within the hair absorbs the light and converts it into heat. The hair transmits this heat into the hair follicle, which it destroys without damaging surrounding tissue. Thus, the follicle cannot produce a new hair.

How Many Treatments Will It Take?

A Series of Treatments is Required

Although a single treatment session can produce results, the full benefit of IPL hair removal is realized through multiple sessions. We recommend a series of 5 to 6 treatments 3 to 4 weeks apart depending on the area.


This is because hair is effectively targeted only during its growth phase. The hair in different areas of the body grows at various rates. Since all of your hair is never in the growth phase all at the same time, multiple treatments are required to produce the desired results. Results can vary.


Once removed, however, unwanted hair remains gone.  Although you can experience some minor hair regrowth any strands of hair tend to grow back lighter and less coarse and can be treated with spot treatments.

Hair removal is effective on darker hair such as brown or black. It will not effectively treat white, grey, blonde or red hair.


The best way to determine if treatment is best for you is an in person consultation. We need to see the hair and skin in order to properly assess your skin tone and hair color in order to determine if this treatment would be best for you.


Results can vary, for best results a series of 

5-6 treatments are recommended.


IPL treatments are not recommended for darker natural skin tones.
